German start-up 🇩🇪 is a pioneer in AI-based video analytics. It combines people flow, emotion, and attention data to analyze human behavior in groups and on the individual level.

Problem

Already challenged by competition from e-commerce, the physical store now has to contend with the growing power of audience platforms, be they social networks or video streaming. Its evolution is inevitable, but we still need to rely on reliable data to guide the right decisions. Retailtainment is often cited as an area to work on, but how do you actually measure customer engagement and satisfaction? This is where Computer Vision comes in. A simple camera and AI-powered algorithms can count visitors, decipher their behaviour and analyse their emotions in real time.

Vision AI – also known as Computer Vision – is a field of artificial intelligence (AI) that enables machines to interpret and understand visual information from the world.

In Retail and public transportation, TAWNY uses available videos and metadata to analyse visitor behaviour and emotions in real time ensuring a smooth and hassle-free experience for participants.

A key point for TAWNY is data protection. Its solution, designed according to the Privacy by Design principle, is 100% GDPR compliant. An in-house algorithm anonymises all videos before analysis, ensuring total respect for privacy.

The data collected is integrated into a dashboard that centralises quantitative and qualitative indicators that can be used both at head office and in-store. The aim is to transform the emotional analysis into immediate operational action, such as identify the  most attractive spots for ad placements, optimizing shelf arrangement, opening an additional checkout, adapting the sound environment to optimise the customer experience or simply for counting people and doing queue management.
